    • HANOVER Albert M. "Al" Barnhart, Sr., 81, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley A. (Goodermuth) Barnhart, his wife of 57 years. Born October 31, 1931, in Otterdale, Md., he was a son of the late Albert M. and Mildred O. (Wentz) Barnhart. Al was employed for 34 years as an auto mechanic for Sears and Roebuck Co. and retired in 1993. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He liked working in his woodshop and making different crafts, as well as tables and benches. Al liked fishing in his younger years, and was an avid WWE wrestling fan. He enjoyed traveling around the country on extended camping trips with his family. He also enjoyed going to Paradisus Church of God, Thomasville, where he was also their caretaker for many years. In addition to his wife, his survivors include his children, Diana Barnhart and her life partner, Pam of Hanover, Albert Barnhart, Jr. and his wife, Sharon of Hanover, Gary Barnhart and his fiancee, Clare of New Oxford, Cindy Cramer of Littlestown, and Robin Fidler and her husband, Steve of Littlestown; grandson, Chad Barnhart of New Oxford, who was raised like a son; a sister, Genevieve Strausbaugh of Littlestown; a brother, Larry Barnhart of Littlestown; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Rose Barnhart; a son, John Kevin Barnhart; and a brother, Rodney Barnhart. A service to celebrate the life of Albert "Al" Barnhart will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. Richard Chronister officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in York Road Cemetery, Hanover, where full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
