- Red Lion - Austin "Butch" E. Smith, entered into God's eternal care after a lengthy illness, on Friday, Mach 31, 2017 at 8:25 a.m., at York Hospital at the age of 72. He was the husband of Carol J. (Dunlap) Smith of Red Lion whom he married on July 2, 1966.
Butch was born on October 17, 1944 in York. He was the son of Austin E. and Alma June (Bowser) Smith. He was a cabinet maker at the former Keener Kitchens in Red Lion, retiring in 2007 after many years of service. He enjoyed attending the Fiddler's Association and going to the Red Lion VFW with his buddy to play cards. Butch loved to travel, going on cruises and listening to music, especially country and bluegrass.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Carol; a daughter, Cathy L. Smith and her fiancé, Joe Schopf of Red Lion; a granddaughter, Ashley N. Brower; and his great-grandson, Kaden J. Brower, all of Red Lion; two sisters, Carolyn Flaharty of Red Lion and Karen Lake and husband, John of Wrightsville; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Billy, Ronald and Joe Smith.
Viewing for Butch will be on Wednesday, April 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Service of Honor and Praise will begin at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Robinson, of Pleasant Grove UM (East End) Church officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove (East End) Cemetery, and will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Pleasant Grove UM Church, 900 Pleasant Grove Road, Red Lion, PA 17356
Butch was a wonderful husband and father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family. He is remembered as being a great man who would always be there to give others a helping hand when needed. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
