    • New Freedom - Theodore "Ted" L. Grother, 88, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Dallastown Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Betty Jean (Taylor) Grothe. Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 10 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The funeral service will begin 12 noon at the Mortuary with the Rev. Darryl C. Zoller officiating. Burial will follow at New Freedom Cemetery with full military rites by York County Veterans Honor Guard.
      Born April 4, 1928, in York, Ted was the son of the late William H. and Minnie H. (Schnetzka) Grothe.
      He was employed with Gray & Son of Butler, Md. from 1984 to 1994. Previously he worked for the former Charles G. Summers, Jr., Inc. in New Freedom. He was a member of Bentley Springs United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of New Freedom V.F.W. Post #7012 and a member of the American Legion Post #256, Parkton, Md.
      Ted is survived by three sons, Theodore L. Grothe, Jr., of York, Donald G. Grothe of Seven Valleys and Barry K. Grothe and wife Christine of Conesville, Iowa; also a daughter, Susan J. Lopez and her husband Vincent of York; four grandchildren, Cristopher, Jeremy, Corey and Abigail Grothe; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Grothe and Trent Lopez; and a step great-grandson, Kyle Burton. He is also survived by a brother, Dean H. Grothe of York. Ted was predeceased by three brothers and a granddaughter.
