    • Bernice E. (Poet) Reichard, 98, entered into rest peacefully in her sleep September 4, 2009 at Country Meadows of Leaders Heights where she lived for the past 13 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Harry K. Reichard.
Bernice was born January 27, 1911, in Red Lion, the daughter of the late Eli and Nettie (Koons) Poet.
She was a 1928 graduate of Red Lion High School. Prior to her marriage, she taught pre-school daycare and worked in retail. Following her marriage to Harry in 1934, she was devoted to her position as family caretaker for Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Horn, owner of the Federal Cigar Company until his death in 1957.
Bernice was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Red Lion where she is remembered fondly for her years of dedication as a Kindergarten Sunday School teacher. Harry and Bernice enjoyed entertaining friends and family in their home especially when it included a friendly game of Pinochle. In 1996 Bernice moved from her home on East Broadway, Red Lion to the independent care unit at Country Meadows, where she continued to impress her friends and family with her sharp wit, resourcefulness and keen memory. Bernice's days at Country Meadows were filled with competitive card games, socializing with friends, and the camaraderie associated with water aerobics.
Bernice was predeceased by all of her siblings; Bruce Poet of Jersey Shore, PA, John Poet of Red Lion, Dean Poet of Red Lion, Kenneth K. Poet of Red Lion, Charles Poet of York, Edward Poet of St. Petersburg, FL, and Fern (Poet) Habbyshaw of Sarasota, FL.
