- Probable Murder and Suicide
At his home in Renick's Valley, this county, last Saturday morning, Romeo Walton, son of the late Taylor Walton, and Robert Agnew, late of Pennsylvania, who had been working for Walton for about eight months, had a quarrel or a disagreement about a settlement. It was not considered serious, however. Romeo then went to his field to plow. About 11 o'clock Agnew went to the house and got the gun, making some excuse for taking it. As neither party came in at the dinner hour a son of Mr. Walton went to the field to ascertain the cause. His father was found lying dead in the field with a hole in his breast, having been shot through the heart, and 28 feet away Agnew was also lying dead with a gunshot wound in the head which was powder burned, showing that the muzzle of the gun was very close to his head when fired. It is believed that the men renewed the quarrel in the field; that Agnew shot Walton and then committed suicide by shooting himself. Mr. Walton leaves a wife and four children. Agnew was unmarried. The gun was found near Agnew.
